Custom Queen-Sized Barn Raising in Purples - Progress #1

I'm working on another custom queen-sized Barn Raising.  My customer requested a focus on purples with less blues and pinks.  The strip sets are sewn together, pressed, and subcut, ready for block assembly later today.

This quilt is a custom order in my Etsy shop, BusyHandsQuilts.  My next custom order is a queen-sized quilt set in Moda Mimi fabrics, and after that I get to work with Amy Butler's LOVE collection, making two Happy Scrappy twin quilts!  It's sew fun to get to fondle fabric collections I've only dreamed about!

My first-ever quilt label!  Purchased from MommieMadeIt on Etsy.  The labels are fabric, and I sew them on.

Custom Queen-Size Barn Raising - Progress #4

This is about half of the blocks on the design wall.  I start laying them out at the offset diamond and work out from there.  My design wall is only large enough for a lap quilt, and it works out okay for me.  At the height it is, I already cannot reach the top and must use a small stool to put blocks that high, so I'd need a ladder to reach any higher!  My method is to piece these blocks together in columns {two together} and then...

move the very bottom row {#11} to the top of the design wall to maintain the pattern and then continue placing blocks below it.  There will still be six more columns of blocks added to the right side of what is shown in these two pictures.  It is 16 x 16 blocks.

Someday soon I plan to make a Barn Raising for myself!  It is my daughter Millie's and my favorite quilt pattern!

The custom queen-sized Barn Raising blocks are done!  Here they are piled up behind the machine.  A huge pile!  I always keep the air can and machine oil handy since I use my machine for several hours most days, and I take good care of Mrs.Bernina because I love her so much.

Custom Queen-Sized Barn Raising
Gotta get a move on - I've got two more custom queen-sized quilts on order over the next two-and-a-half months.  I try to space the custom orders out a bit so I can work on fabric from my own stash, as well.  Plus, I cannot work on only one project at a time; I've got to have several going at once.  The two quilts are a Barn Raising with a focus on purples and a Jacob's Ladder in Moda Mimi prints.  Oh yum!  So fun when a customer chooses a fabric I love but haven't had a chance to work with, yet!
